Biography

I first became interested in photography about 15 years ago when my wife, Barbara, and I took a “grand tour” of the Four Corners area in the Southwestern US (New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado). I borrowed my Dad’s camera kit and busied myself studying numerous books on photography. I fell in love with landscape photography on that trip.

I am also an avid gardener and enjoy growing all kinds of flowers. It was only natural that I combine my two favorite things and start photographing flowers and gardens. So, gradually, I went from grand landscape photography to more intimate, closeup photography.

About 5 years ago, we moved from Northern Virginia to the shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Now, I enjoy photographing the spectacular skies over the Bay, the incredible water in all its moods, the boats (working and recreational), all the shorebirds and wildlife that thrive along the shoreline and the absolutely beautiful countryside.

I am the recipient of numerous art competition awards for my landscape, floral, wildlife and abstract work. My photographs are chosen in juried competitions to appear in such venues as the annual Artfest at AnnMarie Garden in Solomons, Maryland; the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia; and, most recently, at the Arts Club of Washington, DC. My work hangs in numerous private collections throughout the metropolitan DC area and across the country. My photographs are featured regularly in calendars and magazines. I am a member of the Arts Council of Calvert County. I am one of the founding members of the ArtWorks@7th artists' cooperative gallery in North Beach, Maryland. I am also a founding member of the CalvART Gallery in Prince Frederick, Maryland. In addition to my fine art photography, I work as a commercial photographer for clients in both Maryland and Virginia. The other aspects of photography I enjoy are fine art printmaking and teaching beginner to advanced digital photography classes. Teaching is my way of giving back to photography.
